In the past, screenprinting was the only way to imprint images onto t-shirts. Screenprinting is still the most common way to produce t-shirts and is still the most durable and cost effective method for a quantity of shirts. With screenprinting, the more colors you use in your design the more it costs since you need a screen for each color in the design. Because of these expensive and time consuming set up costs, you simply could not afford to have just one t-shirt screenprinted.
Today, there are other ways to produce full color t-shirts without screenprinting.
And you can do a full color shirt one at a time with no expensive screen or set up charges.
The following methods are an alternative to expensive screenprinting.
DyeSub is a state of the art transfer process. It produces a photo quality, full color image which is heat transferred onto a special White Hanes Soft Link t-shirt. This special fabric manufacturered by Hanes is 100% cotton on the inside, but has a polyester fiber woven onto the outside of the fabric that accepts this transfer process. The shirt is a nice heavy weight very similar to the Hanes Beefy T. DyeSub only works on white or ash gray shirts. Since the ink actually penetrates and dyes the fabric you cannot feel the image on the shirt after transfer. It is extremely color fast and fades very little. If you want the BEST, DyeSub is the way to go.
InkJet Transfer is also a photo quality process which can be applied to any brand 50/50 or 100% cotton t-shirt. It works on light as well as dark colored shirts. The image is applied to the outside surface of the shirt so is stiffens the shirt where it is applied. It does soften each time the shirt is washed. InkJet does fade somewhat over the first few washings, but it will stay on the shirt for years. There may be some slight cracking after years of wear and washing. This process is about 30% cheaper than dyesub.
