In the past, screen printing was the only way to imprint images onto t-shirts. Screen printing is still the most common way to produce t-shirts and is still the most durable and cost effective method for a quantity of shirts. With screen printing, the more colors you use in your design the more it costs since you need a screen for each color in the design. Because of these expensive and time consuming set up costs, you simply could not afford to have just one t-shirt screen printed.
Today, there are other ways to produce full color t-shirts without screen printing. And you can do a full color shirt one at a time with no expensive screen or set up charges.
The following methods are an alternative to screen printing.
Dye Sublimation is a state of the art transfer process. It produces a photo quality, full color image which is heat transferred onto a special white performance fabric t-shirt. Each tee is engineered with Intera moisture wicking technology which provides optimal temperature and moisture control, allowing your skin to stay cool and dry even in extreme conditions. Light and durable, our micro-fiber and spun poly performance fabrics are comfortable and sturdy. Two needle cover stitch-in hems, reinforced neck tape, and four-thread over-lock stitching is added for additional support. The Basic-T also includes a shoulder-to-shoulder neck tape for the toughest customers you have. The image size for dye sublimation is 8.5" x 11". Dye Sublimation is available on white shirts only. Since the ink actually penetrates and dyes the fabric you cannot feel the image on the shirt after transfer. It is extremely color fast and fades very little. If you want the BEST, Dye Sublimation is the way to go.
InkJet Transfer is also a photo quality process which can be applied to any brand 50/50 or 100% cotton t-shirt. It is only available on white shirts. The image is applied to the outside surface of the shirt so it stiffens the shirt where it is applied. It does soften each time the shirt is washed. InkJet does fade somewhat over the first few washings, but it will stay on the shirt for years. There may be some slight cracking after years of wear and washing. This process is cheaper than dye sublimation.
